Netflix is becoming well known for creating top notch, highly-anticipated, award-winning hits and last year’s The Crown was no exception. Series star Claire Foy won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth, and the series itself got 13 Emmy nominations as well. It explored Queen Elizabeth’s rise to power, and gave viewers an inside look at the trials and tribulations she had to go through after taking the throne. Shortly after the series aired, it was announced that it had been renewed for a second and third season, but no timelines had been announced as to when to expect them. Netflix has now announced that the second season will be airing on December 8th.

The second season will cover the period between 1956-1964, with Claire Foy and Matt Smith reprising their roles as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip once again. This will be their final season playing the pair, as Netflix announced previously the roles would be recast as the series went on to cover the later periods in their lives. The season will follow their lives as they travel from Tonga to Papua New Guinea and the Antarctic, as well as look at how the birth of Prince Andrew and Edward affect their private lives.

Some of the things you can expect from season 3 include President Kennedy (played by Michael C. Hall) and his with Jackie (Jodi Balfour) visiting the palace, a look at Prince Charles’ troubled youth, and Princess Margaret’s (Vanessa Kirby) relationship with photographer Tony Armstrong-Jones (Matthew Goode).

After watching the trailer below, we find ourselves highly anticipating the upcoming season. Perhaps it will be something to binge watch over the holidays.
